About the Director...
I come to you with a degree in both Juvenile and Criminal Justice from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I am also a certified mediator which I believe is important when working with youth today. I have worked with Children for over 25 years and it has been a lifelong dream to own and operate a place to care for them and help them grow. I was employed by the Department of Health and Human services for close to 15 years through Guilford County. I worked within the Court System, in total, for almost 20 years before deciding to take on this adventure. I am certified in adolescent CPR as well as First Aid. Our program is fully licensed and insured and is annually inspected by the the City of Greensboro and Greensboro Fire Department.
Mission of C.A.R.E.
C.A.R.E. is an afterschool program created to accommodate the growing need for afterschool in the Cornerstone Community. Since Cornerstone is the only school that we provide transportation for, there is only one stop for the younger children in the afternoons. This eliminates lengthy periods of time in transit allowing for more homework and playtime. C.A.R.E. is a small program accommodating Cornerstone, Jessie Wharton, and Legacy Classical students in grades K-12. The middle school program is new and created due to the high demand for this age group. Each day is organized to allow the children time for a snack, homework, and free play. My goal is to provide an atmosphere that is not only encouraging, caring, and positive but one that also promotes personal growth. The children will be able to play sports, garden, do arts and crafts as well as use their creative minds in free-play. Electronics such as video games, arcade games etc. are rarely used we encourage them to use their creative thinking and encourage outdoor play. There is also an option for onsite tutoring based on the needs of the children and at a fee as determined by the tutor.
